“The Federal Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri has sacked the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa (PDP) and ordered a fresh election in the Senatorial zone within 90 days.” according to IgbereTV reports.
The law suit was filed by the former Governor of Abia State Chief Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK), who contested for the Abia North Senatorial Seat on the platform of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA).
The court of Appeal upheld the appeal of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu over the non-admittance in evidence the list of accredited voters register of Abia North obtained and duly signed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by the election petition tribunal.
With this latest development, political analysts say that the advantage which Sen. Ohuabunwa had when the Goodluck Jonathan was the President may have eroded. As a result the forth coming fresh election would be more or less on a level playing field.
PPA was founded by Chief Orji Uzor Kalu.
“In the 21 April 2007 Nigerian National Assembly election, the party won three of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives and one of the 109 seats in the Senate. Following the April 2007 presidential election, the PPA agreed to join the government of president Umaru Yar’Adua,” according to Wikipedia reports.
